Question about 'Setting up Dial-Up Networking'

I have a question about my ISP connection. I have downloaded the most current driver
for my modem (56K US Robotics). I have TRIPLE checked my ISP phone number, settings,
etc. My modem dials out, I hear it communicating with the ISP server, and then,
just as I am almost connected to the ISP, it abruptly clicks, and reports a failure
to communicate. The message also says "Check your login and password". Again, I
have checked this over and over, and have made sure I used the proper case type.
Any help???????Setting
up Dial-Up Networking:

Hi,
I had a similar problem after re-installing windows, modem would dial and appear
to connect ok, but then I/Explorer would not connect to my ISP or any sites, I found
the cause, but it may not be the same in your case, here's what i did, go to control
panel, double click network, and make sure you see a dial up adaptor, also under
the adaptor, make sure you've got a line that say's "TCP/IP ->Dial Up Adaptor" ,
there may be other lines that include NetBUI etc. Basically these are protocols that
have to be present for windows to recognise the network, in my case I did have a
dial up adaptor, and another line underneath that just displayed "TCP/IP" i.e not
the full string, so I removed and added one, using the options shown, then it worked
ok. Good luck,

They provided you with all of their IP and DNS settings?
I set up a DUN connection using Earthlink even though their tech said they dont support
it (wink wink nudge nudge). Have you tried contacting your ISP to seek out their
assistance? It is entirely possible they have blocked such connections, or you are
missing the DNS information.

why don't we try this ?
when everything else fails, start the Internet Connection Wizard or go to
the Dial Up Network folder and click on the "Make New Connection" icon;
to make a new "account"; When you get to the first page, select
"i want to set up an account manually"; from there, all you need is the
local dial up number and your user name and password; When it asks
for a "name" for the new account, name it Number 2, or whatever you
want to call it; Then you'll get to the finish and it will ask "do you want
to connect now?" select NO and just close the wizard.
Now back to your Dial Up Network folder, open it, you should have the
old account icon, the new account icon, and the "Make New Connection"
icon; right ?
Now double click on the NEW account icon and see what happens;
If you are able to connect, the old account is corrupted, just delete it.
if not, your ISP is blocking you. Call them up and find out why.
(did you pay your bill ?).
also, for the future, try www.ispwest.com. and open a 15 day free trial
ISP account. I bet you'll like it.

hi,
Hope your problem has been solved. If not you might try "modemsite.com" free
information. Sometimes manufacturer may not include .inf files for all connection
speeds modem is capable of.
Good luck.
