unwanted window

When I boot up my computer a window opens automatically. It says "program" in the
title. There is nothing in the window, and when I click for details, it shows that
there are zero megabytes. It began when I installed a new digital camera. I tried
uninstalling and then reinstalling, but it didn't stop the problem. It is a minor
annoyance, but I am afraid it may be the beginning of a bigger problem. Is there
a program that scans the computer to diagnose things like this?

Hey Barb,
Try Start\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Information. From the TOOLS menu
run FILE CHECKER. There's a good possibility when you installed/uninstalled a .dll
or other file is missing or corrupt. FILE CHECK will guide you to re-install any
problem system files.
Good luck,
Jerry

Go Start\Run\Msinfo32\Software Enviroment click on Running Tasks and see if you can
find it there.

Jerry, I followed your excellant instructions and there was a corrupted file which
I went ahead and corrected. It didn't help the problem unfortunately, but may have
headed off more serious ones. Thanks for the information. Barb

Hi Deke, I followed your instructions and when I got to running tasks I got a whole
list of things. I don't know what to do with the information. All but four were Microsoft,
and I recognized all of them. If it would help I can send the list. Thanks, Barb

Check your start folder...Start/Programs/startup
If not...check msconfig...
start/run/msconfig
Loook for something that opens on startup named the same as the PROPERTIES of the
file you're having problems with. Hopefully it's there.

I am sending a list of the things that showed up in the startup Running Tasks that
I didn't recognize. I went to a website ( www2.whidbey.com ) that tells what the
acronyms mean, but these weren't included.
Kernel32.dll
Mprexe.exe
MMTASK.TSK
Mstask.exe
Navapw32.exe ([probably Norton AV)
Tap.srv.exe
Iexplore.exe
Msinfo.exe
All of these are new to me since I last cleaned out my start-up line-up. Do you recognize
them, or can you tell me where to find a site that will identify them for me?
Thanks, Barb

Barb, All those files you listed as new to you can be located this way: Start button/find/files
and folders, enter the name of the file in the "Named:" block area and select "My
Computer" in the "Look in:" block area, click on the "Find Now" button, When the
find window shows the file and where its located, right click on the actual file
name and select properties and that window normally will identify the file with a
description/ name/product name/version/company/ even the language/location and folder
its in...=;O)
