This is a wonderful solution, I had played with so many settings to try and correct my problem!! But please note, I had the 'tcp/ip' Description in the Netrans group not the NET group. Thanks a bunch!!

Windows 98 use NETTRANS not NET group

Ditto the thanks for this tip! I also found the TCP/IP setting in the NETTRANS group, NOT the NET group.
