Question about 'What to do about a Page-fault, Illegal operation, or Fatal exception Error'

I have a question about fatal exception errors, Page faults and Illegal operation and script error messages. Im forced to use AOL as my ISP as I have both PC and MAC computers. On My PC I continioulsy keep getting page fault and Illegal operation messages on WAOL. Most of them say WAOL caused an illegal operation error and when I open details it says that an invalid page fault occured on WININET.DLL and or on JIT.DLL. I also sometimes get that white screen on my desktop with an Explorer Error message. I've got IE 5.5, but rarely use it as it's always crashing, so Im forced to use the embeded browser on AOL which I understand is IE. The people at AOL haven't got a clue on how to fix the problem. Even tho the message says to contact your vendor if the problem keeps occuring. The AOL system Im using is 7.0. On the script error messages. I get those alot while I go to any web site and start surfing through the site. These darn messages are annoying as all heck. Anyone out there that may suggest a fix it, I certainly would appreciate it. Thanking you in advance.

The only real fix is to dump AOL. That programs causes nothing but problems, errors,
and on and on. I don't know what you mean by forced to use it as your ISP.

All I can say is expect to continue having problems. It's nothing new that they don't
have a clue, even so, they'd have to tell you the same. There's no way for anyone
on the forum to help with these problems.

I doubt that MS has a fix for it either, whether there's an article on it or not.
That usually makes no difference, from what I've seen.

I would attempt to reinstall internet explorer, or if you have win98 run the "repair Internet Explorer" which comes up when u add/remove internet explorer in add/removed programs control panel. WAOL errors are often caused by a broken IE as AOL uses IE stuff to decode webpages.

Hey George, Man your gettin tons of errors by the sounds of it! If repairing IE didn't work, you could double check Browsing. You will find it in: ctrl panel>Internet options> Advance. Scroll down until you see "display a notification on every script error". If this box is ticked, make sure to untick mate. This will hopefully stop those Pesky script errors! How much RAM & Sys Resources have you got, once the PC is FULLY Booted up? That could well be the issue.. Good Luck. Oh one other thing...Your Vendor is the People you Purchased your PC from, NOT AOL..? Contact them if its causing so much hassle.

I have this error too, though much less now that I have 9.0. What struck me is that you said you had a smartlink modem, which I have too. I wonder if the two together somehow conflict with Windows. I'll suggest this, get 9.0. With 7.0 I got it every few days, 8.0 was the worst, 3 or 4 times a day, 9.0 does it every few weeks or so, which I can live with since I am using their product free.
