Question about 'How do I make the background of desktop icon text transparent?'

I have a comment about How do I make the background of desktop icon text transparent?:

"Note: in all versions of Windows, Microsoft provides no way to change the color of the text under desktop icons"

This is in fact not true. There is a program called Desktop Architect that allows you to do just that. Well, sort of. It only allows you to choose from the colors that have already been assigned to other items listed in the Appearance tab of Desktop Properties. I'm not sure how he got it to work, but this must be an unavoidable limitation. Unfortunately, the program is no longer being supported and the website is gone, but the last release can be found at www.themedoctor.com/da.shtml This feature can be set by going to the Tools menu, select Options, go to the Advanced tab and check "Draw desktop icon text with". Here you can also set the option to make the background of icon text trasparent as well. Even though it is no longer supported it's still one of the best!

This program is supposed to support 95, 98, Me, and 2000, but I've only tested it with 98 and 2000.

That is only one of the minor features of Desktop Architect. It can do that and manage wallpapers, sounds, icons, cursors, startup screens, and so much more through a single integrated interface. There are not the same at all!

Why isn't it true?

Desktop Architect isn't a Microsoft program, therefore the statement remains true.

Yes Sir Ed! I was just referring to how easy it is for the icon transparency. I downloaded Desktop Architect after reading your post for my collection. I use Microangelo myself.

If you want your icons in a lot of programs to keep on changing, by all means use
Desktop Architect. I know of at least 2 persons that had that problem, myself one
of them. No matter what you did the icons still changed. Deleted the program and
everything is fine. A better theme program is Desktop Themes.

If you look at it that way, I suppose your right. Being a programer I thought that the statement was referring to support at the API level :)

I've been using this program for several years and I've never had this problem, nor has anyone else that I know who has used it. It can automatically change things such as icons or wallpaper on a regular bases, if you set it to do so.

I'm glad you have good luck with it. I know what it does. It cannot be set up to
change icons of other applications such as jpeg, gif and bmp. It can be used to change
the icons in a certain theme. I used it for 2 or 3 years and finally discovered that
it was changing my jpeg, gif, bmp along with some script icons. I dumped it and no
problems since. It is a good program and it is free, but it was too annoying for
me.
