For Netscape right click on the shortcut you use to open it and click the Shortcut
tab. In the target box add this: -nosplash with a space between the path that's already
there and -nosplash.
In Opera go to File menu >> Preferences >> 'Start and exit' and uncheck 'Show
start-up dialog'.

Bobsturs suggestion will take care of one of the splash screens in Opera. To stop
the Opera splash screen:
You can disable Opera's splash screen by following these simple steps:
Exit Opera
Open the file "Opera6.ini" (located in your Opera install directory) in a text editor
Under [User Prefs], add the following line:
Show Splash Screen=0
Save the file and exit the text editor
The splash screen will now be disabled when you start Opera.

You're right - I'd done that one too and forgotten about it since I stick mostly
with netscape.
Another tip about Netscape7 is to put a shortcut in StartUp (or the registry)
and use the command -turbo. Then Netscape will preload and open as fast as IE.
