Question about 'Get Rid of the Logon Screen'

I have a question about Get Rid of the Logon Screen:

I've read all the posts on this Q and the answers are there but I need someone to confirm that if I enter a blank password in the password change option that will tell Windows that no password/login is required-I know it's pretty dumb but I just don't want to risk being locked off! (Windows Logon is set, no Networking selected, accidently set a "Windows Password" while setting a SSaver password) I'd be a very grateful Newbie if someone would make this thing clear to me---Thanks

Windows stores all your passwords in .PWL files. The details of these are encrypted, but passwords for users can be reset simply by deleting these files. Entering a null password *should* mean you are not prompted for a password in the future, as long as Windows Networking is removed.

What you want to do when Windows asks for your password, is don't type anything and click ok, not cancel. Then it shouldn't ask again. (phantom)

That did not work for me, I clicked cancel and the logon screen ask for a password
every time I turn on my computer. I have even reformated my hardrive in an attempt
to get rid of the *#$#@% thing.

if you're prompted to restart while completing the operations in this list, don't (well, until you hit steps 6 and 8).

1) restart and hit cancel/esc at the logon screen

2) in the network applet in the control panel, make sure the primary network logon is set to windows logon

3) remove all users from the users applet in the control panel

4) in the passwords applet in the control panel, hit the user profiles tab and select the all users of this computer... radio button

5) do a file find for *.pwl and delete any files found

6) restart

7) when prompted, enter a name but no password and hit ok (don't cancel/esc)

8) restart again and see if you're still prompted to log in

amaralliya, I kept getting the login prompt and had to click ok and not cancel. Everytime
I hit cancel it came back next boot.

read the directions again. the initial instructions are to hit esc/cancel so that you login with the default profile and are then able to remove any other profiles. after completing the initial procedures you then login with a username (no password) to create a profile.

I wasn't talking about changing profiles. All I know is I hit ok to not see the popup
again and if I hit cancel it kept on coming up. Believe mme or not but that is what
I did!!!!

Why are you answering a post from a year and a half ago? In the first place I am not the one that had the problem. I was trying to help someone. And in the second place I didn't have to do what the amaralliya stated to do. It wasn't my problem and why he posted to me I have no idea. I also don't care for the crack about the three year old. That isn't what we are here for. Not to criticize but to help
