Question about 'How do I stop a program from running whenever I start Windows?'

When I go to the startup under msn config,n there is a whole pile of things that start up on boot...I don't even know what some of them are and I think this is why my pc takes so long to start up. Is there an easy way to determine what I need checked off and what I can uncheck, or is it just trial and error?

When you run MSCONFIG from the RUN command on the START button menu, you can click on the STARTUP tab to see all the programs that are set to run at startup. If you look at the path listed for the application, you can determine what a lot of them are. One that I particularly hate (and it likes to put itself back periodically) is the calendar reminder feature from MS Outlook. -->Tim

You must not use trial and error in determining what should or shouldn't run at startup. Aside from checking the link you were provided, the things to leave checked are: Scan Registry, Systray, Load Power Profile (both), your AV and firewall, if you have one. (Load power profile is only necessary, if you're using power schemes)
