I have a question about Customize the Start Menu Button:

when i try to open explorer.exe with the help pf vc++ i get a message 'cannot open file-sharing violation'. can somebody please tell why is it happening

first you have to make a copy of explorer.exe and place it in a folder that is not in the windows folder or in root drive - 'My Documents' would work nicely. You should then be able to access the copy for editing. When done editing, then reboot into native DOS and switch to the new version - you can't do this while windows is loaded!

check out this link for step-by-step method Modifying The Start Button. I did this awhile back and I only had to change one occurrence of S.t.a.r.t -- also make sure you have backup copy explorer.old in case you make a mistake.
