I have a question about When
I choose "Shut Down" from the Start Menu, my computer hangs at the "Please Wait"
screen:
please can someone help me. i am using someone else
computer, where i am housesitting, and am totally
computer illiterat, i do manage to e-mail, surf, etc, ever
ything was fine, but sine 2 days my computer wont
shut down, i go through the normal shut down process
and the computer freezes at the windows 98 logo
underneath it says: windows shutting down, but noth-
ing happens. so i shut it off manually, it goes thru the
disk scan, or whatever, and i can use the computer,
but it just will NOT shut off. Please if someone can help
this is so troubling for me, as it is not my computer, a
and i expect the owners to be back in 2 days.
THANK YOU

Your in the doo..doo..........dude or dudet! Since you claim to be "computer illiterat",
are there any programs running when you shut it down? Be sure you close any running
programs before shutdown.

Petra: if it's not too late; download a patch from the link below (after your text).
click on the blue Next button, agree to the licence agreement, click the blue next
button again to reach the download.
select the Save (to Desktop) option in the download dialogue box.
leave it there, and show it to the computer owner and let that person decide what
to do with it.
if the operating system is Win98SE, the patch should fix the shutdown problem.
