Question about 'Things that slow down system bootup'

I have a question about Things that slow down system bootup:

Hi there, when i boot WIN98SE on my PC it seems it takes too long. after a while the WIN98 startup screen pops up but then it's continuing with the boot procedure, than after about 2 more screens with boot messages the Line 'too many parameters is displayed , a few sec later the next WIN98 screen appears and the Desktop will be build. this all together takes longer than i expect. Can someone tell me what causes this problem.. Thank's Dieter

;-)

Hi Dieter -

Just an idea, until someone jumps in with a possible answer...

You might want to copy and paste the contents of your autoexec.bat and config.sys files here, and perhaps someone can spot something causing the 'too many parameters' message.

You may have too many programs opening on startup. You should enter msconfig and in the startup section uncheck all that you don't need at startup. Leave systray and scanreg alone as well as power profiles. Most programs can be started manually. Forgot to mention, don't uncheck stimon.exe if you have a scanner. The scanner may not load properly. Temporarily change the name of Autoxec.bat to Autoexec.000 and Config.sys to Config.000, and then re-boot and see if the problem has gone away.

what that is that is causing this problem is a usually a space in the autobat.exe. usually a program that you installed like diskeeper or what not. Or altering the win boot log or msdossys file, by changing boot delay to 0 or logo to 0 so that no win logo will appear at startup, but ya its hard to say waht is causeing without a decription. Please Paste!!
