Question about 'How do I install, remove, or re-install one of the components that came with Windows?'

I have a question about How do I install, remove, or re-install one of the components that came with Windows?:

My windows 98 (notSE) came as OEM on a Pavilion PC. It is version 4.10.1998. The Windows Media Player that came with the O/S had worked perfectly but then I installed updated versions when prompted by the Player to do so and have had troubles ever since. I see a Windows Media Player 7.1 in my list of uninstallable programs and was wondering if I will possibly harm the O/S if I try uninstalling it. Thanks.

won't do any harm, you might reinstall it at a later time if you want.

I think that you will find that the other Media Players are still in your system. I have 98se and I have all of them. You can use whichever one you want as the default player. I use mplayer.exe for checking wav files and mplayer2 for other things. You are not the first person to have trouble with 7.1.

Uninstalling 7.1 won't affect default media player. I did it om my Dads PC.
