computer hangs during startup on autoexec.bat file

I have been having trouble with my Windows 98 system "hanging" during startup, and
have determined that there is a line in the autoexec.bat file that is causing the
problem:
C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\NETWOR~1\VIRUS~1.XX\BOOTSCAN.EXE C:\
If anyone could tell me what the line is used for and what I should do with it to
remedy my situation and return to a normal startup option, I would be much appreciative.

Related to McAfee, of course. Try editing your autoexec.bat file, by changing (only) Bootscan.exe
to Scan.exe. Save your change, of course, and reboot.

If Larry's suggestion doesn't work, inactivate the line
by putting a semi-colon (;)in front of it.

Thanks, Larry.....problem solved. You've saved me a $35 dollar call to Microsoft.
Who should I send my check to?? LOL

dude i belive if you have avast! antivirus it is a BootTime scan of drive C:/ that
you scheduled. it isnt really needed, and anyways avast! antivirus isnt near as good
as norton, and definatly not as good as Mcafee anyways.... i recommend gettin diffrent
antivirus, you still probably have a few virures somewhere. just because its free
dosent mean its good, you know.

Just because it costs money doesn't mean it's good either. A good place to check
for virus efficiency is the Virus Bulletin (http://www.virusbtn.com/).
It would seem that the major players, Mcaffee, Norton, AVG, Avast!, and AntiVir have
all done pretty well recently. Not only does Avast! work, but it's easy to use and
effective.
