Error Messages On Start-Up

When I turn on a computer at my company it boots up to the background picture I have
on my desktop then an error displays with rtvscn95 in the message title. The message
says "This program performed an illegal operation and will be shut down". In the
details button it says "rtvscn95 caused an invalid page fault in module WSOCK32.dll
at 0177:788lbba9. It then goes on to list a bunch of numbers with Registers:,Bytes
at cs:eip, and stack dump.
There is also one that comes up with rpcss in the title and details says it's an
invalid page fault in module KERNAL32.dll and it will also say WSOCK32.dll in another
error message. I tried shutting down and booting a couple of times to see if the
messages were always the same and I got one that said something about the RealPlayer.
When I clicked CLOSE on the error messages I could get to my desktop. I disabled
the realplayer icons in my tray (near clock) and now it boots up with errors and
I can't get to my desktop anymore. When I press Ctrl, Alt, Delete the only programs
showing say ati2evae and msgsrv32(not responding). This computer is actually the
company presidents and I am not sure if he just downloaded anything from the internet
that would have caused this. He is not here at this time so I can't ask him. Has
anyone seen this before that could help me fix it? Thank's to anyone who can.

While writing this message I left the computer with a background only on the desktop.
After I posted it I went back to the computer and it allowed me to go to the desktop
as usual. I pressed Ctrl, Alt, Delete and there is all kinds of stuff running like
usual. There is also something running called RealPlayerDownload. I don't know if
RealPlayer has anything to do with this problem but it is what I suspect. Anyone
have any ideas? Thank's again.

re: TkBellExe - realsched.exe -osboot RealPlayer - Real

Hello Randy, There ... could ... be a problem with RealPlayer Download so I avoid
this by disabling it, so that I am in control of when I want to download, and the
same is true of ALL auto-download programs on my computer.
If you go to Start, Run and type: msconfig , and then press enter and open the Start-Up
group, scroll until you get to TkBellExe . Scroll across the window and read the
line: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe -osboot
LEAVE THIS ENTRY CHECKED
Now you know what it is and where to look for it in the main program directory too.
You will need to start in safe-mode and alter the name of realsched.exe to realsched.old
If you uncheck the TkBellExe entry in msconfig RealPlayer will only put another entry
in. If you leave it checked it won't.

re: TkBellExe - realsched.exe -osboot RealPlayer - Real

I tried your suggestion but could not find the realsched.exe or the TKBell.exe in
any of the folders for realplayer. I had a hard time getting into safe mode because
of the same error messages. I finally did and turned the realplayer tray icons back
on. I was then able to get the desktop stuff to show after I got past the error mesages
and I tried to remove the realplayer download program from control panel add remove
programs. This made it so I couldn't get back to my desktop. I went back into safe
mode (with difficulty) and uninstalled all realplayer entries from the control panel
add remove programs control. This didn't make a difference either. Now I can't get
to the desktop again.
What does the Rtvscn95 and Rpcss programs do?
Thank's for your suggestion. Hopefully I can get this fixed.

Hello Andy, actually with you mentioning these two files from '98 and the symptoms
I wonder if you have the "System Boot Problem With Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition
7.0" If so you need to look at the web or contact Norton.
rpcss.exe - rpcss - Process Information
Process Name: rpcss.exe or rpcss
Description: The portmapper function in Windows , handles RPC-calls (Remote Procedure
Calls) System Process.

Randy,
I did a quick search for reashsched.exe, and I found mine to be in:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB
However, I'm running windows 2000, maybe it might be a little different.

Randy,
This error "rtvscn95" is caused by Norton Antivirus, your boss didn't do anything
wrong -besides choosing the wrong antivirus software- there are several ways to get
rid of this, however the best one I know is get rid of NAV.

hallo, if you are in 2k (maybe xp too) you can do ctrl-alt-delete and stop realsched
from running, then you dont have to boot into safe mode to rename the realsched file!
thanks for the tip, this lil bugger has been annoying me for ages.
:D
