I have a question about All of my desktop icons just became corrupted - what do I do?:

Every so often some of my icons take on the appearance of other icons. For example I have several picture (.jpg) files that are, at the moment, masquerading as Internet Explorer icons. On other occasions a number of unrelated icons have disguised themselves as Corel Draw, or Web Ferret, or other progammes. This happens quite often but can be resolved by restarting the PC. Any ideas please?
