Question about 'When I choose ''Shut Down'' from the Start Menu, my computer hangs at the ''Please Wait'' screen'

This seems to happen on Win 98 machines connected to an MS LAN. It can easily be remedied by logging out of the Network before shutting down the computer. Do this by going Start > Log off. When Windows restarts and prompts for your username/password decline by pressing Cancel. Once Windows is up and running (this takes only a few seconds) go Start > Shut down in the usual way.

Thats one of the silliest suggestions I ever heard. So why dont you logoff and just shut down from there! Duh!

This is a known issue with Windows 98. There is a downloadable patch at the Microsoft web page. To locate it, search for "Windows 98 shutdown."
