Question about 'Get Rid of the Logon Screen'
Sunday, December 29, 2002 at 7:07 pm Posted by rp

I have an older laptop (97) from work that I once used on a daily basis to logon
to our network. Therefore I have an "Enter Network Password" screen for Microsoft
Networking pop up each time I boot. I've tried all the "fixes", including downloading
Tweak UI, but still get the logon screen complete with user name, password, and domain.
I'd like to get rid of it since I never use it at work anymore. I'm also afraid
it may be causing me difficulty hitting my ethernet card, which is keeping me from
accessing the internet.

If you're not using your network card and aren't going to physically remove it, I
suggest disabling it in Device manager. Just uncheck the configuration, of course
there'll be a question mark, but no big deal.
The first couple steps should do it...
Ctrl. Panel >Network applet
Primary Network Login > Windows Logon
Password Properties
Check > All users of this PC use the same preferences and desktop settings.
Remove Passwords:
Go to C:\Windows
Delete all .pwl files
Go to Run > Sysedit
Open system.ini
Delete all lines under
[Password Lists]
Close and Save changes
If those things don't help:
Backup the registry and/or export the following keys:
go to Start>Run, type regedit. Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\current version\network\real mode net\
Right-click on Real Mode Net, choose new>Binary value, name it AutoLogon and give
it a value of 01 00 00 00.

Hi rp,
Go to Control Panel / Network / change the Primary Network Logon to Windows Logon.
Check OK and reboot. Your NIC cable connection is another problem..
How is it configured?

Some of us spend more time seeking Jmc's and your replies for the cartoon elements
in them.

Go to Start, Find, Files and Folders, make shure that you are locating the files
on your hard drive, under name type *.pwl.
Exstentions pwl are assosiated with windows password.
Delete all files with this exstention and empthy deleted files bin. Windows password
will quit.
