After reboot the system shows a blue screen

I have PC with Win98. After rebooting the system checks floppy, then cd/rom drive
and immediately gives the blue screen. All attempts to find a conflict with sound
or network cards failed. The idea that the drive is dieing is not ok. After disconnecting
it, the blue screen appeared again. But it appears only sometimes. The PC is 5 years
old. format, fdisk, win reinstall did't help. Somebody said that EDO RAM and SD RAM
does not work reliablly together. But I have been useing 64 MB EDO plus 16 MB SD
within a year without problems untill now.
I need some advice in what direction to move ....
Thank you.

I your five year old computer have you ever changed the CMOS battery on the Motherboard?
It usually needs changing after three years.
Look here for the keyboard combination to allow you access to your BIOS: BIOS KEY CODES & CMOS BATTERY & BEEP CODES
MICRON RAM at CRUCIAL OR PRICEWATCH
RAM testing: DocMemory 2.0 & MemTest 86
Adding these 7 missing Vxds is said to prevent blue screen errors with '98. And you
could take a look at your MinSPs, Files, Buffers & Stacks settings and possibly Vcache
too.
The 7 MISSING VXDs '98 only BSOD-FIX
configmg.vxd , ntkern.vxd , vcomm.vxd , vdd.vxd , vdmad.vxd , vflatd.vxd , vmouse.vxd
PerformanceImprovement
AlwaysUnloadDll
NTFS/FAT
