Memory testing with MemTest86

Forget CheckIt! There's a great program specifically designed to test your memory
as thoroughly as possible, it's called MemTest86 and it happens to be free. (Released
under the GNU General Public License.)
The MemTest86 installer creates a bootable floppy, then you reboot to run the test.
The quick once-over should only take a few minutes, but I've seen faults that only
appeared in one of the longer tests. Select "all tests" and let it run for a few
hours if you want to be really sure.

My Dell Laptop doesn't come with a floppy drive. Is there another type of software-based
memory test that will work without requiring a floppy? Yes, yes, I know something
that sits on the hard drive means some parts of the memory may be inadequately tested,
but as I look at it, having some memory tested is better than having none tested.

You could try making a bootable CDROM with MEMTEST86 on it, most CDR software has
bootable CDROM option on it now, could be worth a try

If you have access to a CD burner, there is an ISO image of a CD bootable version
at http://www.memtest86.com
