I have a question about I get a 'File not found' message when I try to start any program:

i purchaed mcafee internet security...b4 downloading it i had to uninstall norton and zone alarm. all seemed well until i logged into my mail today. i got an email from the postmaster stating that one of my emails contained a virus and could not be forwarded, however i never sent an email to that recipient. then my computer locked up. i rebooted and received a messag that i was win.ini. so i used the universal boot disk and redlownladed windows 98. now i am being told that i am missing a vsdata95.vxd file. everytime i try to log back in my computer locks up. is this a virus or is it the result of zone alarm taking the win.ini file when i uninstalled the program?

Greetings, vsdata95.vxd is part of Zone Alarm. You need to go to Zone Labs web site for instructions on how to manually remove Zone Alarm. Zone Alarm is a bad thing(tm). Good Luck

My problem is that I can't get rid of vsdata95.vxd. I delete it from the registry, delete the "internet logs" file, empty my recycle bin, sweep everything with Norton, re-boot, and it comes back like some crazed zombie. Suggestions anyone? And yes, zone alarm b bad

Hey, not sure if you figured this out yet, but if you start up in safe mode and go to windows folder you'll find the VSDATA95 file there, you can then delete it in safe mode. I think it's in the windows folder or the system subfolder. It completely fixed my computer once I got the file deleted. Now the only problem is i get "file missing" when I try to load windows. But everything seems to work fine.

Thanks! I did a bunch of research and came to the same solution as you suggested. Now I'm free of this rabid puppy.

To REMOVE the vsdata95.vxd error...

Editing the registry is the fastest method, but you have a lot more potential to cause serious problems. If you decide to proceed, use caution. Deleting the wrong entry can cause applications to fail, your computer to become unstable or not boot at all. You've been warned, be careful! First, click Start, then Run, then type in Regedit and press enter. In Regedit navigate to: HKEY_LOACAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD. Next click on the plus sign to expand it and you will see a long list of VxD's. Locate VSDATA95.VXD and highlight vsdata95.vxd then press the delete key to remove it. Close Regedit and restart your system.

Just to tank you. Also an almost complete ignorant, in computer things, was able to follow your instructions, despite my limited English knowledge... Of course I took all possible care, but to make mistakes, by such easy following instructions, it's impossible. Let's hope I'm not wrong...
