Please identify the CAB file name and the program you are using when the error occurs

Yep,,,me too mate,,with me it started about 2 weeks ago ,,i fdisked and reformatted the C: drive and when Windows 98SE ran scandisc before installing it said there were 307kb of loast clusters,it fixed the errors and installed ok,,,and all my programmes appear to work now but everythingi try to run and install now that has a cab file involved comes up with a message saying the cab file is corrupt,,have tried to unpack the cab files with winzip but that just tells me that the can file does not srrespond to the Microsoft 1998 cab file structure and the sig bit is missing,,,anyone any ideas??

Where are you trying to read the CAB from, the Windows CD or from the hard drive?
 If the CD, it may be scratched so that a file can no longer be read correctly.
Or if the hard drive, it may have more cluster errors. Have you run scandisk recently?
 If you start getting ncreasing numbers of bad clusters, it is a sign the drive is
on the way out and you should replace it pronto (while you still have time to copy
files from the old drive to a new one)

You could try running the system file checker to make sure your install program isn't
corrupted (Start->Run->SFC)

I had problems with my win98, so I rebooted the whole system, fdisked and formatted. As I came along to installing Win98 from the cd i have, it stopped on NET7.cab. It said: Not Ready Reading Drive E: Abort, Retry, Fail? I cannot get the files needed for internet, RUNDLL and other important devices. I pressed Fail and it finished installing, but with internet and other stuff Not Found. I dont have any other backups, so can anyone help me?

I had a similar problem; I eventually had to copy the files from another 98 computer. If you have another one, of can find find somebody who does, then put the missing files on a floppy, and when it asks for them, direct it to the A drive. Hope that helps!
