RealPlayer is a popular Media player made by Real Networks for viewing Internet audio
and video. The most recent version is the "RealOnePlayer." Loved and hated by many,
the new one comes bundled with lots of hulabaloo and features you might already have
nor need, but even so, its' what they make, and its pretty decent for what is does.
It sounds like you had it installed at one point, but removed it. Maybe it was
not removed proerly, or some files are left over. You may need to reinstall it or
upgrade to RealOne, or use Windows Mdeia Player to open you music files if you no
longer have a version of realplayer. If you do not want to use it, but you are getting
error messeges when you start your computer (at "boot" as you said), then you will
need to complete the removal of RealPlayer by deleting certain files that are stil
there for some reason, or tell Windows not to look for RealPlayer to open you file
but to use something else. So are you trying to open a music file or do you get errors
when you start your PC? (What do you suppose happened?)

Everytime i try to run a boot program i get the following message...
would you mind clarifying that statement? do you mean that every time you try to
run any program, you get a "program not found" error?

Same thing happens to me. Everytime I try and run any type of program, a box appears
that says "Program Not Found", then gives me the options to locate it but I never
can. This is really bothering me because I cant run certain programs that I really
need. Please help.

start -> settings -> folder options -> view tab. untick hide file extentions for
known file types and hit ok. then hit start -> find -> files or folders. in the
named field, enter regedit.exe and hit find now. when it finds
the file, right-click -> rename, and change the name to regedit.com, then
double-click the file to run it. this is the windows registry editor and it works
a bit like windows explorer. in the left pane, expand:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command
in the right pane, double click (Default) and enter:
"%1" %*
that is, type the following characters: quote-percent-one-quote-space-percent-asterisk.
hit ok, touch nothing else, close the registry editor, rename regedit.com to regedit.exe,
and try to run a program. a reboot may be needed, but probably not.
get back to us.

Help anyone out there!
I seem to be having this same problem (as of Jan 24/04). I received an email that
Jdbgmgr.exe was a virus and should be deleted (which I did). I later found out it
was a hoax. I subsequently downloaded & ran AVG 6.0 Freeware Virus Program which
'cleaned' my computer. Since then everytime I try to load and *exe file I get a
'program not found' message looking for osbarsus.exe windows file 'needed to open
executables'. I tried the fix below but cannot get into my regedit file (even if
I rename it to DOS 'com' file).
I am able to get onto the internet but not my mail. Also, I can open regular files
saved as (non) executables. If anyone has suggestions please post them (no point
in sending me an email because I can't open it).

did you configure windows to show file extensions before attempting to rename regedit.exe
to regedit.com? if my previous instructions do not work, here is a .reg file which
you can merge with your registry to solve the original problem:
http://members.rvglug.org/~magtec/temp/exefix.reg
simply right-click on the link above and choose to save the file to your desktop.
when it is saved, double-click it to merge it with the registry.
jdbmgr.exe can be replaced by using sfc.exe to extract the file from your windows
98 install cd-rom.

Thanks but it doesn't work, any other suggestions?
I did configure windows to show file extensions.
I tried your fix but when I double click the downloaded exefix.reg file I still get
a dialogue box saying windows needs file osbarsvs.exe to open registration entries.
Also, a question, is there supposed to be such a file on Win98 that was deleted?

windows does not use executables to run executables. osbarsvs.exe was a virus which
was removed by your antivirus. unfortunately, the antivirus did not fix the registry
after removing the file.
the only other thing i can think of is to use an old dos application named 'start'.
in c:\windows\command there should be a file by the name of start.exe. copy that
file to the original location of osbarsvs.exe, rename it to osbarsvs.exe, then try
running regedit.exe again.

Hi,
Tried the rename strategy below but it didn't work (DOS window just kept opening).
However, I was able to install the .inf patch from above & IT WORKED!
Thanks very much for your help.

glad it's fixed :) thanks for telling me
of course, now that i think about it you probably could have just renamed regedit.exe
to osbarsvs.exe
oh, well - lesson learned.
