Did you install the motherboard drivers? If so then reinstall 98 , but first do a format and make sure the format is with the start up disk format. D

Well, first of all the color is due to the fact that you need to load the correct driver for your video. You will need to find out what kind of video adapter is in your computer and then get drivers for it. Did your computer come with driver disks for your hardware?

Aside from your drivers, how much Ram do you have? Most people don't know it, but you have to have at least 32 mb of Ram, or 98 will run ungodly slow. Maybe some Ram has gone bad, too. Check your startup.

Before you downloaded from this site, did you backup your drivers that were already installed? Please tell me how to backup my drivers before I download. Thanks.

re: It's usually a bad idea to ask questions in threads quite so old as this one.

It gets too hard to find addons to threads this old, and you just don't get much variety in answers offered.

Unless you choose to run individual "Uninstall" procedures, the old drivers are still stored on the hard drive after you get new ones to use. From the Device Manager, you can look at the Properties for various plug and play devices requiring software drivers, write down the names of the current drivers, and use Windows Explorer to make copies of those into a new, separate folder on the hard drive.

It's OK to start your own thread.
Tacking on to a 2-year-old thread that is already 10 posts long
isn't the best plan.

My display recently messed up badly too. I didn't upgrade or install anything. But all of the pictures or colors I see always appear with dots(obviously because I cannot change to 256-bit color). When i try to change settings it restarts and when I'm back on the setting remain on 16-bit color.. I've heard many thigs that it could be..such as the monitor itself, and in my own opinion the adapter..Anyone who has had this problem and had it fixed please lend some advice..thanks much!
