I have a question about Stop Windows from Randomly Searching the Floppy Drive:

My computer attempts to access the diskette drive at shutdown as well as windows cleanup. How do I stop this?

Hi Pat -

One other thing I might check is my antivirus software; it may have an option to 'scan floppies at shutdown';
you might check to see if this applies.

Larry, please don't rename (almost) every message you write to "Also.." as it just
confuses which thread you are posting in.

Whoa... you managed to press the wrong button jdee... and, I think you're way outta line here!

First of all, I haven't been on the forum a whole lot lately, so it's not like I'm overly posting and/or abusing anything... And, I've been a regular poster on this forum for several years without this causing any confusion... that is 'till now.

Secondly, I've only used the term Also in replying, twice in as many days; so it's not exactly being overly used. I didn't know there were any such restrictions. If I'm adding my additional comments, it seems appropriate to me, that I can use whatever I want...

Third, I will rename my replies to any **** thing I want as I am the one making the reply... I hardly think my replies are confusing to anyone...

I've seen many a criticisms before, but this is absolutely ridiculous.

OK - maybe I overstated the frequency ) I hit 2 out of 2. I feel it is better to
stay in context for others looking at new posts. In my case, I use chronological
listing of messages so changing the message subject in mid-thread does lose the continuity.
Sorry if I offended but I thought I made a polite suggestion.

To be sure, our discussion does manage to detract from the OP's concern; I apologize for that...

I accept your viewpoint as a constructive suggestion; perhaps I could have been more receptive; just a difference of opinion. Heck, wouldn't be interesting if we agreed on everything...

Anyways, jdee, there are times to where subject lines almost beg to be changed; either due to their length or lack of clarity, too, in addition to arbitrarily changing it.

I don't see it as being uncommon to change the subject line; either to emphasize that you're adding additional commentary (which I sometimes do), or simply to draw attention to your response, for whatever reason.

Reasons aside (be they serious or humorous ones), I don't view it as a distraction (or confusing); doing so often livens up the thread, IMO.

Just another angle to express ourselves. The only times 'confusion' come into play is when responses are directed to the wrong party -- it's not the subject line that's at fault, but rather when the responder chooses to reply.

Have a good weekend.

It was OK by me - freedom of speech prevails as shown by your two heads.

I've also been getting an annoying fault re floppy seek. Everytime I use Microsoft Word and ask for a new template (as in writing a new doc) my floppy chatters on for a long time until eventually the program gives up and goes into the templates directory. Any ideas? I'm using W98SE. John
