For some reason when I right click the desktop, and then choose active desktop/customize active desktop, nothing happens. In the control panel the Display icon has dissapeared , unfortunately these are the only methods I know of to change resolution etc. It would also be nice to have the icon back. any help gratefully recieved. thank you. i dont know about getting the icon back, but if you go to the control panel and choose 'display' it gives you the display properties window and you can make your changes there

Right click the Desktop, select 'Properties' and then 'Settings'.

right clicking desktop only gives the menu, all items in menu have no response.

If the menu selections are not greyed out, try these options. There's a problem somewhere,
but being sure it' not a Virus or Spyware should be checked first.
  • Download and run SpyBot to check for Spyware/crap on your system: SpyBot
  • If you don't have an updated Anti-Virus program, run a free online scan: House Call
  • Run 'System File Checker'. Select START/RUN, in the 'Open' box type SFC (System File Checker) and press enter. Follow the prompts and have your Win98 CD handy.
