I've got an old Compaq laptop I'm trying to network with my desktop Athlon-based
tower. I've got NICs installed properly, and a crossover cable running between the
two NICs. The tower is set up as the host computer, and the laptop a client.
I can see and access all the host's files (and print to the printer) fine from the
client, but on the host, the Network Neighborhood doesn't seem to exist. The icon
is there, but there's nothing in the network when I click on it, not even "Entire
Network." All drives on the laptop are setup as shared, so I'm assuming something
should be there.
I also attempted to install ICS on the host, and I don't think it's working properly.
The installation jumps from the intro page directly to asking for a floppy to install
the ICS settings on the client computer and, then finishes. I reboot, attempt to
dial in, and the modem connects, but doesn't transfer any data. I uninstalled ICS,
rebooted, and after a few other weird quirks, I'm here now.
Am I doing something wrong???
