Dr watson error and random freezing of programmes

I have a question about Top
reasons for random, fatal crashes in Windows XP and Windows 2000:
when downloading a Zip file from the web it goes into dr watson which then refuses
to unzip(error when loading to dr watson,also my cpu randomly freezes ao i get a
message that tells me the program will close,can any one help in laymans terms as
i am still learning..thanks.
