Question about 'How do I install, remove, or re-install one of the components that came with Windows?'

I have a question about How do I install, remove, or re-install one of the components that came with Windows?:

Running Win98 SE. Had been using IE 5.0, w/o Outlook Express installed. Required to upgrade/ install IE 6 to use an internal Web application. (Stupidly) did a standard install of IE 6 SP1. Install also installed Outlook Express 5. I want to get rid of Outlook Express. Outlook Express does not appear in Add/Remove Programs control panel either as part of IE or by itself. Cannot find an unistall string entry in for Outlook Express in the registry. I'm not too concerned about the exe, what I really want to get rid of is the dll (s). We use Notes 5 here, and I understand it has conflicts with Outlook.

It's not in add/remove progams. Use the next tab, windows setup. You'll find it there. Unclick it. If you still have problems. Go to find files/folders. Under c:\ type in outlook express, and delete all the files you find for outlook express to the recycle bin.

Outlook Express uninstall

Yes, Outlook Express was under the Windows Setup TAB in the Add/ Remove Programs control panel. However, Windows Setup indicated Outlook Express was NOT installed. I checked the install box, installed, and then went back to the Windows Setup and uninstalled Outlook Express. The uninstall seems to have cleaned up most of the Outlook Express registry entries, but it did not actually remove any files from the Outlook Express folder. Guess thats a manual task. Here's hoping this redueces Win98 crashes (Notes conflicts?).

If you go to explorer, you'll find an update folder for I.E. 6 which still retains all of the outlook express files. You would still have to delete them manually by going thru the folders & files thing I mentioned.

I have frequently removed ie and outlook completly from win95 and 98 by using a software called ieradicator. You can find it using google. It's very easy to use, but remember to get another browser first. It really removes it, and you won't have an option to re-install it through windows. It really speeds up an old computer too!
