Problem running utilities from the MS-DOS Prompt

For some reason when I type "command" at my run box, it runs MS-DOS and I cannot run pings or traceroutes, etc. Anyone know why and how to fix it?

It tells me that "ping is not recognized as an internal or external command" or "unable to run tracert utitlity while in DOS Mode". It's like it completely unloads windows and I am back to a bare command prompt with no commands in memory.

Can you confirm that you are running Win98? Not 2K or XP?

Also, are these the standard Ping/Tracert programs or did you load them from somewhere
else?

Regardless, from Windows, Run SFC and reload those programs from either your Windows
CD or the CAB files.

no, these are standard ping and tracert utilities included in windows 98. it's wierd that it seems to close windows and simply run DOS but without the command.com apparently. :O(
