Question about 'Why don't folders remember their position, sort order, or icon size?'

I have a question about Why don't folders remember their position, sort order, or icon size?:

I would like to set my icons in all my windows explorer folders to sort by name. I would then like to make this the default for all folders unless otherwise individually indicated. The feature windows 98 se says will do this does not do this. Any suggestions? I believe by default, they are currently set to sort by file type.

This procedure usually corrects the sorting problem Jeff. There's also a link below
regarding folder views.

  • Open Windows Explorer and then click the C: drive in the left pane. Next click 'View' from the Toolbar and then click 'Details' in the menu. Next in the right pane, click the 'Name' tab at the top of the name listings. This will arrange the list by 'Name'. Try this several times to be sure the order listing reverses. When you have the order list set A-Z, hold the 'CTRL' key and click the 'X' in the upper right corner of Explorer to close it. Now release the 'CTRL' key and reboot your system. Be very sure to hold the 'CTRL' key down until explorer has closed!

I want to be able to sort the folders in the *left pane* of the windows explorer (or at least the sub-folders) by date modified. Is that possible?
