New Browser Window Popup When Using Browser Back Button

Briefly, my problem is related to the pop-up phenomenon, but my popup is a new browser window that pops up typically when I am using the back button in IE6, but also happens when I leave a webpage by visiting a link in that page. Seems to happen a lot when I am at yahoo.com and cnn.com. I don't want to install any anti-ad software, but would rather fix this myself, manually, even if it means diving into the registry. I am very computer literate, but this popup stuff has got me stumped. Anyone out there that can give me any pointers on preventing these popups?

Here's two options:

Run SpyBot to clean the crap: SpyBot

It's very likely some crap has attached itself to your browser. Download BHODemon
at this link: BHODemon

Install and run the program. If it locates anything (dll), highlight it, click 'details'
and in 'Select Status' click 'Disable'. Click 'OK' and then exit the program.

If i understand your question corectly it is code on the web page itself. Changing the security levels may fix the phenomenon.

The solution is simple:

 Download Mozilla from www.mozilla.org

Then, if it is not set by default, check the box for Block popups in the settings.
