re: Question about 'Replace the Ugly Startup and Shutdown Screens'

Shutdown means shutdown. When you choose shutdown from
the Start Menu your computer is doing what it's designed to do. Because it is a new
machine I assume it has a fast CPU, so it's shutting down quicker than those screens
can activate. That's normal.I have a pokey old PIII-333, and while I still see
the wait screen briefly I haven't seen the shutdown screen since I upgraded from
AT to ATX. I'd guess this is your first ATX machine, and I'm curious as to why
you feel you need to see those screens.

You misunderstand me, my old computer would wait and display "It is now safe to turn
off your computer." when I selected shutdown from the start menu. Now, the same OS
on an only slightly newer system bypass's that screen and turns the whole system
off. I would like the system to simply display the logos.sys file as it used.

In other words I want to stop the computer from automatically shutting off when I
choose shut down from the start menu.

Was your old system an AT powered system? Is your new
system an ATX powered system?

How would I go about determining that?
All I know is that when I shut down the old system I got the screen with the orange
lettering telling me is was okay to shut it down. With this new system I do not.
I have gone through the BIOS and fiddled with some of the settings, but I must admit
that I am at a loss as to what I am doing. Hopefully your guidance will help.

Do you have the motherboard manuals? Alternatively, how
old was your old machine and is the new machine really new, or second-hand?The
point I am making is that if you have gone from an AT machine to an ATX machine,
each one is behaving as it is designed to do, and you have nothing to worry about.
Software power off is a feature of ATX motherboards, and you will not see the shutdown
screen. And no, I have not misunderstood you.

My point is this: how do I disable that feature? That is what I want to do. I DO
NOT want my computer to shut completely off when I select shutdown from the start
menu. I want the warm fuzzy feeling of turning my computer off manually.

All I can suggest is read your motherboard manual. It
may or may not be possible - entirely dependent on whether or not your BIOS supports
it.It is not a question with a general answer.
