I had tried up-to-date versions of AdAware and SpyBot -- neither of those got rid

no more problems at boot-up!

I tried to run the removal program and got a message saying I'm missing MSVBM60.DLL.
It wouldn't run afterwards.
Any ideas?

unzip and run it. MrC

Do you have a zip program, if not here's a free one. CAM-UNZIP
You may have the file association messed up, in that case take a look here. ProgramFileOpensWith.
If all fails, click on my name and send me a note and I will send you the Shredder
already unzipped. See if that helps, MrC

and then it worked and i could remove it... hopefully

Just remove the registry entry using "regedit" at the command line prompt, then delete
the .exe file from the \windows\ folder and the prefetch log from \windows\prefetch\.
All files will start with "iedll ". I wouldn't trust this third party download.

Yes you had the CoolWebSearch or one of its variants on your system. It has grown
to be a very big problem. CoolWebSearchChronicles.
To prevent problems like this you should have Spybot and SpywareBlaster on your system.
Run Spybot after you update it and it will get rid of any spy/adware on your system.
Don't forget to hit the Immunize button also. SpywareBlaster just gets installed
to prevent problems. Boot of these programs should be updated weekly. Thanks, MrC
