MS Windows Startup Menu with timer and number options

Hi, I searched the forum and site to find the answer, but I couldn't so sorry if this is an old repeat question. Every time I start my computer with Win 98 SE, I get the Microsoft Windows Startup Menu that has the count down timer and the number options for safe mode, c: prompt, etc. If I ignore, then the 30 seconds passes and Windows loads correctly; If I press enter, then Windows loads immediately. This is very annoying and I'd like to learn how to make it stop! thanks! -Jeff G.

Go to Start/Run and type in MSCONFIG. Click the Advanced tab and uncheck "Enable Startup Menu."

If so, Open an MSDOS prompt. 1) At the command prompt, type C: 2) At the command prompt type ATTRIB MSDOS.SYS -h -s -r 3) Type EDIT MSDOS.SYS 4) Look for a line: BootMenu=1 (may be all the way at the bottom) 5) Delete this line, or change the 1 to a 0 (zero) 6) Save the file 7) Exit EDIT 8) At the command prompt, type ATTRIB MSDOS.SYS +h +s +r Exit the DOS window and restart your machine. Boot menu should be gone now.

BoBb, I did that and the menu went away! Now, my second monitor isn't working properly. Could this be related? I get the "If you can read this . . ." then your second mnitor is working, but I can't get it to work in Display Settings. it was working before the msconfig change? I'm puzzled and appreciate your help! -Jeff
