After visting one web site, my pc default homepage was hijacked and I cannot change it to my original homepage because 'Tools - internet options - General - address : was grey in colour which mean I cannot type anything on it. The worst thing is when I try to open my registry to solve the problem, it show me a error message that my registry was disabled. Now I am really lost and dont know what to do next. I hope that someone will be able to help me to solve the above 2 problems. Thank you.

Download and run Spybot S&D at security.kolla.de. Also be sure to update it. Run a virus scan. If you do not have antivirus download, update, and run AVG 6. It is free and you can get it at grisoft.com. Keep us posted.
Hope this helps,
Drew J

You have inadvertently downloaded and installed CoolWebSearch
or one of its variants (a browser hijacker). The best way to get rid of it is
to download to and run from your desktop, CW-SHREDDER . If you get an error about a missing file MSVBVM60.DLL, install
this first: MS-Patch
. All downloads are virus free and safe. MrC

PROBLEM: Internet Options under Tools on Internet Explorer is changed and the General
Tab is no longer present. To repair this issue you must fix a data value in the registry.
To do this do the following.

CLICK START BUTTON > CLICK ON RUN & type in regedit > this will take you to your
registry, where you have to go to repair the issue.

Once there, on the left side there go to the following...
Click on HKEY_CURRENT_USER
then click on Software
then click on Policies
then click on Microsoft
Then click on Internet Explorer
and then click Control Panel.

You will see three entries in this area, they are.....(default) REG_SZ & Programs
Tab_REG-DWRORD & General Tab REG-DWORD. To the right of these there is a section
with #'s in it referred to as "Data". The Data associated with the General Tab should
read 0x00000000 (0)... if that data has a 1(one) instead of a 0 (zero) you need to
change that data value back to 0 (zero). To do that do this..... right click on General
Tab.........click modify.... make sure here is a dot in Hexadecimal selecting it....and
the number to the left under (Value Data) change that number to a 0 (zero). Close
the registry edit. After you do this the Internet Option under Tools will be normal
again.

First you need to remove the crap that's caused the problem. Then remove the Regedit
restriction and any others as needed.
  • Download, unzip and run CoolWebShredder.
  • Follow-up by installing and running SpyBot (direct download link for SpyBot). Be sure to use the update options within both programs before checking the system.
  • You should also consider an online Virus scan:VIRUS
SCAN This should unlock the registry.................
    • Copy & paste the red text below into Notepad. Then save it to your desktop as PATCH.REG
    • Double-click the PATCH.REG file. You will receive the following message: Are you sure you want to add the information (in drive: location file was copied to\file name.reg) to the registry?
    • Click Yes, and then click OK.
    REGEDIT4 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System] "DisableRegistryTools"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System] "DisableRegistryTools"=dword:00000000
