Error Starting Program(s)
"A required .DLL file, AVIFIL32.DLL, was not found."
Many graphics and multimedia programs don't start, even after reinstalling them.
Still, this .dll file is found in the windows system directory, but windows does
not allow deleting it. Please help.

Why would you want to delete it? Unless i misunderstand the post, it appears that
you need the file. Try extracting the file using SFC system file checker from the
installation cd. Start /run type sfc. Extract one file. If you don't mind Playboy
bunny popups you can download the dll file here...

I'm trying to delete it because I thought reinstalling the (graphics and multimedia)
programs using it will reinstall it. Reinstalling these programs several times did
not help!! Copying it in many programs directories that are using it did not help
too.
Thank you so much

(similar problem) Error Starting Program(s)

I have the same problem with certain mulitimedia programs and such. If I start a
program, the system acts busy for a moment, and then nothing else happens. If I look
in the task manager, then it says the program is running, and if I try to end it,
then it says "not responding"and provides that oh-so-lovely "wait/end task/cancel"
dialog. I've tried reinstalling them, and I also tried the avifil32.dll re-extraction
mentioned in a reply to the above question, as well. This problem just came out of
nowhere, along with a problem that causes the task manager to report random programs
from windows/system as running, and then when I close it, it says not responding
and gives me the wait/endtask menu, and then when going back into task manager, that
program has been replaced by something like dxdiag or cfgwiz32 or systray, etc, and
I repeat the process for all of these programs over and over and over...... , but
I found a way to fix this. However, any help with the programs not opening problem
would be greatly appreciated.
