At Menu Options select Safe Mode. In Safe Mode, place any screensaver to "none". Put your Antivirus program (if you have one) on "disable". Now do a disk defragmentation. After that, go ahead and do a "scandisk using the 'thorough' option". When you have finished, just shutdown and reboot as the system will come up inthe normal Windows mode. When I attempt to defrag first, any computer, I typically receive a "must scandisk first" error. So, I scandisk first, defrag second, no problems.
