Compaq won't start

Compaq won't start

A blank screen - except for "81920 KB OK" in the top left - is all that comes on
when I turn on my 1998 compaq laptop. I tried doing a CTRL ALT DEL but nothing
happens. The machine often turns itself off when I am not using it, then says
it has not been shut down properly.
The day before I could not access the D disk (CD disk).
Can anyone help, please? Heather

So the computer isn't running a bios check at boot?Like reboot and it runs through
the ram,what hardrives you have,etc.?it just comes up blank with "81920 KB OK" up
in the left corner?If it runs through bios and then you get that message then it's
your os,if it doesn't do anything at initial boot,just displays that number and that's
it,I would say you have a hardware failure

Just a thought! Hold the 'CTRL' key while the Laptop boots. Some of their systems
have a recovery menu available. To be sure about which key, consult the manual.
