Control Panel Disabled

All of the applications in my "Control Panel" are inaccessible. Any Icon that I click on will give me "Access to the specified device, path, or file is denied." error. I recently had some spyware hijack my homepage. I was able to successfully remove this and restore my home page, but now I have this problem. I have done everything that I know of to fix this and give up. I am about ready to reload Windows and start over. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks....

yeah. you gotta remove that spyware. its still in your system. use a tool, like Spybot S&D, or another spyware removal tool. check www.spywareinfo.com if that doesnt work, you may need to back up all your goodies, and format C:, then do a clean re-install of win98, and then install Spybot S&D. it helps protect you from spyware

What did you do to "successfully remove the spyware" cause right now it sounds like whatever you did may be the culprit. Please post back as to what you did/used to remove the spyware.

I used CW Shredder and Spybot S&D. I was able to get my homepage issue resolved with that, but then noticed the control panel issue. I also lost access to "properties" on "My Computer." Someone had given me the advice to restore a prior version of my registry...I also did that to no avail. I am fresh out of ideas. I have recently ran into others that have the same problem. They have been told that it could be a new variant of the CoolWebSearch Hijacker. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

If you have updated and tried CoolWebShredder and SpyBot, then
try the Link Association (Shortcut) Repair at Reg Files.

You've got nothing to lose, it will only reset the default registry settings.

Also be sure this isn't Virus related: VIRUS
SCAN
