I have a question about How
do get the taskbar and desktop back if Explorer crashes:
I have the same problem, however this is what happens: i start windows 98 it goes
to the background image then a few seconds later i receive the error message. same
as before cannot do anything by task manager except shut down. I scan for viruses
it says i have 2 win32/elkern. however through msdos prompt scan it will not heal
them or store them in vault. i have tried everyting, will someone please tell me
how to reinstall windows98?
thank u

This method installs windows the professional way by copying the windows cab files
to the hard drive and then running setup from there. If you are using Windows ME,
just substitute Win9X for Win98.
Note: E may be your cd-rom letter and is visable right above the A prompt somewhere
and may look like this DriveE:=DriverMscd001 unit0, take note of which letter
it is. If it's different than E, just use that instead of E in the procedure
below. Make sure you have your Windows Product Key!
You can do this all automatically with EZRELOAD,
and with only 2 clicks of your mouse, check it out!
With your computer off put your Windows bootdisk in and turn on the computer.
Choose start with cd-rom support and press enter
Put your Windows cd in the cd-rom
You will end up at the A prompt (A:\>)
At the A:\> type format C: /Q and press enter (If unable to do a quick format,
the standard format will be performed)
When it's done formatting the hard drive, you will end up back at the A:\>
At the A:\>, type C: and press enter
At the C:\>, type md win98 and press enter (note space between md and win)
Back at the C:\>, type cd win98 and press enter (note space between cd and
win)
You will end up at C:\>win98, type copy E:\win98, press enter (note space
between copy and E:)
The cab files are now being copied to your hard drive
When that's done you will end up at C:\win98, type setup and press enter
After scan disk runs you will come up to view log or exit, use the <- or -> arrow
keys to highlight exit and then hit enter.
The installation has begun follow the instruction that come up
When the files start to be copied to your hard drive, you can take out the bootdisk
<< make sure you do this!! You can leave the Windows cd in, but don't forget to take
it out when you are done. MrC
