Question about 'How do I stop Internet Explorer from loading a ''home page'' when it starts?'

I have a question about How
do I stop Internet Explorer from loading a "home page" when it starts?:
We are using a home network. Both computers have Win98SE on them. I want to change
my home page. When I go to control panel, internet options the home page is grey
and will not let me change it. When I click tools, internet options (from internet
explorer) I get a message "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions
in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." I never had
this problem until I made MSN my home page. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you
in advance for your help.

Use the following, which is what Spybot does to lock it and see if there is a 1 and
change it to 0.
Backup the registry and/or export the following keys:
go to Start>Run, type regedit. Navigate to:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\
Right-click on the Internet Explorer key, choose new>Key, name it Control Panel.
Right-click on the Control Panel, chose new>DWORD value, name it Homepage. Right-click
on Homepage, choose modify and type in the number 1.
This should lock your home page, so no other web site can change it.

I should have deleted the part that no web page can change it as it can. This only
stops somebody on your computer from changing it.

Spybot has been great, but I noticed this problem within a few days. Your post is
helping me. I should inform spybot of the problem.

hello ma'am, if you have a regedit.exe, go to the start menu and choose run option
then type regedit and hit enter key. look for this keys:
hkey_current_user\software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel
under control panel you must see a value name "HomePage" w/o the quotes with a value
of 1.
change the value 1 to 0 to unlock your internet address.
