startpage-cd trojan??

PC got loaded w/viruses yesterday morning while visiting an educational site where my 6 yr old was practicing w/coins. At least three programs downloaded themselves, and the craziest things started happening. In the end, all viruses were either healed or quarantined by my AVG anti-virus program. As a precaution, I also scanned w/online versions of symantec and McAfee. McAfee found another infected file with the virus name StartPage-cd, but when I clicked on the link, there was no information on this virus. I scanned the file w/AVG, and no virus was found. I tried search engines, but the only thing I can find is several variants of startpage as a trojan horse. None of them match the one McAfee found. Any suggestions?

It seems to be related to this http://de.trendmicro-europe.com/enterprise/security_info/ve_detail.php?Vname=TROJ_BOOKMARK.A If that is the case then try CWShreader http://www.computercops.biz/downloads-file-349-details-CWShredder!_v1.56.2__04.12.04.html

CW-Shreader is a zip file. I have disabled zipzilla, part of gozilla, which asks to be reinstalled to open CW-Shreader. Is there a better program that I can use w/out all of the garbage that gozilla brings with it?

Go here to get the .exe of the CWShredder
it should open up right to the .exe.
btw McAfee has started to include
some of the CWShredder variants
in their virus scans:

CWS

trendmicro found a joke virus, which I deleted, but it did not find the startpage virus. I downloaded CW-Shreader, and it said my system is clean. I think I'll try the McAfee scan one more time. Thanks for the help and suggestions. I will let you know what I find out.

Your Welcome, you sometime have to just keep plugging away at it. try downloading the MacAfee Stinger. You can run it right after download, and just delete it when done http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

thanks again. I will try that. Just finished scanning w/McAfee, and the results are the same. Virus is StartPage-CD, and it is in the file spmario2\thank.exe, but what I don't understand is why when I click on the link, there is no information available for that particular virus. There are 20 variations of StartPage, but none w/CD. Oh, well, if all else fails, I guess I'll try deleting the whole file and rescanning.

You would be amazed at what all is on my pc. Two teenage boys...need I say more? The only thing that has kept that program from being executed is that both of them have finally moved out on their own. I haven't had time yet to rid my hdd of all they have downloaded. At one time, there were over 700 mp3 files. I don't need super mario2, so if I delete it, will that get rid of StartPage-CD? Stinger scanned and says that I have 45,532 clean files.

If none of the virus scanners get rid of StartPage-CD. Then do a file search first. Delete any files you find, then do the same in the registry. You will find a "Find Button", It will find one entry at a time, then you hit "Find next", untill no more entries come up. There are risks when doing this so only delete entries you are sure are related to your problem. Type "regedit" in Run to get to registry. I don't know if the mario game is related.

McAfee identifies joke applications as a potential virus--I know, I have 21 on my system and they show up during all my scheduled virus scans, information may or may not be available on all of them...
