Cannot remove Windows SR 2.0
Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at 3:08 pm Posted by Kevin H
(41 messages posted)
I have had a problem of this program appearing on my Add/Remove Programs list in
Control Panel.
I have been told to delete a file from the Windows folder called 2_0_1browserhelper2.dll.
However I have done this and this program called Windows SR 2.0 will not disappear/uninstall
from my Add/Remove Programs.
I do believe that the .dll file is only part of the problem. If anyone could help
me out then this would be highly appreciated.
Thank you.

That 2_0_1browserhelper2.dll is a BHO (browser helper object) running Spybot
S&D should remove it. Leave that Windows SR 2.0 alone, i think that's your Windows
installer.

Update that before running, if you decide to use it.
You can use this, also BHO Demon

I think maybe he's running Windows 95 SR2 and that's why that program is showing
up in Add/Remove. And you're right, he should leave it there. But that other file
should go!! Carl S.

Nothing worked

I do not have Windows 95 hense I posted in the Widows 98 forum. It is also not my
Windows Installer as I have never seen this before on my Add/Remove list. It has
only come up recently and I know that it could be a possible hijacker. Seeing as
it wasn't on my original list when I formatted my computer I know that I do not need
it so I want it to go.
Spybot has not done anything for my computer as I just get mainly cookies and it
didn't detect anything unordinary.

Hi,
I was wondering if you ever figured anything out from the windows sr 2.0. I have
had the same thing appear in my add/remove programs. I believe it may be related
to alot of pop-ups I've been getting, and items that have been installing themselves
on my computer over and over even after I've deleted them. Did you ever come up
with any answers? I'd like to remove the program but am cautious because since I
don't really know what it is all about. Thank you for any help any of you can offer!

Hi Kevin,
This link might be of help to you:
http://www.computercops.us/postp115697.html
What I tried that seems to have worked for me is deleting the value for the uninstall
path in the Windows SR 2.0 registry thing. Then I deleted the program it pointed
to. Then I uninstalled Windows SR 2.0 from Add/Remove Programs. Then I deleted the
Windows SR 2.0 registry folder thingy. Probably the long-winded and unnecessary way
to do it, and maybe there are still unused files lying around, but I haven't seen
anything amiss yet since. :)
Good luck if this is still unresolved for you.
Miki.

I have windows ME and I have that installed, so it is not related to 95 SR2.

To Remove Windows SR 2.0 Go To registry and find windows SR 2.0 folder and delete
all Folder named Windows SR 2.0. When you Search you find 2 Folder of this name.
So deletes all two folders and restart the system you find windows SR 2.0 has been
removed. Thanks Vivek Garg

Windows SR 2.0 isn't Windows Installer. Windows Installer doesn't show up in Add/Remove
Programs unless you have Windows 95/98, and even then I'm not sure it will show up
there - But if it does, it would show up as MSI.

Go to control panel, and uninstall Windows SR 2.0 from there. It will ask you whether
you want to keep parts of the program to get free updates, products, and the rest
of the bullshit. Select "No". Otherwise it won't uninstall.
It's a clever adware cos the icon looks legit, but it does behave like an adware.
Check this out, my computer was clean except for this crap, and today when i was
working with java, I click on a button in IExplorer to submit a form to "sun.com",
and this XXX site opened up! - I don't think sun.com had anything to do with this!
How embarrassing. Good thing my mum wasn't here, cos I'm no pervert! and don't wanna
look like one!

Spybot SD doesn't recognize the program.
Details - the program windows SR 2.0 also creates some files in the windows folder,
files that are inserted into windows startup, and can also be found in task manager's
list of processes.
At first it was a ypitipol.exe, after removing it and restarting i got yjongpaz.exe,
and so on.
The main program Windows SR doesn't even appear in my list of installed programs.
There was only a small uninstaller in my windows folder. After executing it, and
carefully following the steps (it tries to trick you into keeping it, so don't press
enter blindly), the "simptoms" dissapeared.
I actually still don't know if the program is still there or not. I have nothing
out of the ordinary in the registry, or in my windows folder.
So, if you have it in your program list in control panel, lucky you. If not, try
my way.

I too have the same problem. I checked with Microsoft this morning, and they verified
that this is not one of thier updates. This clearly points to spyware/adware. I
also have run Spybot and Antispyware and neither was able to remove the pesky file.
Can you walk me through the steps that you outlined previoulsy? I am a novice, so
try to be as specific as possible. Thanks.

Hi Kevin! To answer your question with a question, have you tried using
your recovery disk? It has been my experience that when i want to get rid of
annoying programs that don't want to leave or get uninstalled, i use the recovery
disk, and it works. It may take awhile to clear everything out, and start over,
but it is worth it. Hope this helps.

Windows SR is a FreeWare BHO or Spyware. to delete it you need to find out which
application it was attached to and delete it first. a good spyware detector/remover
is all you need. I am confident in using GIANT AntiSpyware. I was able to remove
this windows SR 2.0 within a matter of minutes.
You can go here to see the Information pop-up I got before I deleted it myself.
