What about F-Lock

I have a question about Force
NumLock to Behave:
I have a Microsoft brand multimedia keyboard with the
F-Lock function, defaulted to off, which must be on in
order to use the standard Function Keys (F1 - F12). I
never use the alternative functions on those keys, and
would love to have it default to on when I boot the
computer. Will the above tip work for that as well? Is
"FLock" the command name for the key?
Thanks for a great site!

I did a little online research on your problem. Apparently, the F Lock is a hardware
switch located in the keyboard itself and is not programmable so I don't believe
the method your link refers to will work. I did find a page that says a workaround
is possible IF you are running Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Server 2003.
Basically what it does is to reprogram all your keys through a key remap program
that alters your registry settings. You didn't say what OS you are running so I don't
know if you could use that method or not. BUT even if you do have XP or Win 2000,
I would make a full registry backup before installing any of the "tweak" programs.
AND if you are running Windows 98, don't try to use it at all. Sorry.... I think
you'll just have to live with it. Here's the link:

Thanks. I found tht site as well. Alas, I am running Windows
98. (I presumed that would appear in the headers of my
initial inquiry, as I had to select my OS to make the post.)
Thanks anyway, though.
Maybe I should just upgrade to XP. :p

Thanks for following the forum's rules. But some people post their queries in multiple
forums so you can't always tell what OS they have unless they state it in their post.
Supposedly XP is a more stable OS than Win 98 but if you read through the posts on
the XP forum I see just as many problems there as are posted here. Windows 98SE has
proved to be a pretty stable OS on my machine and I can run everything I want to
with it. I see no compelling reason to shell out big bucks for XP. In fact if I were
to get a new computer I'd be tempted to wipe XP out and install Win 98 instead, just
because I have lived with it for so many years now that I know most of its ins and
outs. Carl S.

I would check out the new intelipoint software at microsoft's support site. This
link to Microsoft
Intellipoint Software should give you the right version of the softare and the
FAQ that talks about the F-Lock key.
I would try that before you upgrade. Windows XP Pro would be a good choice provided
you have a computer that will handle it.
Take care and good luck.
