I can only get win98 to load in safe mode. I need advice?

I booted my computer(Compaq) with Windows 98, up this morning and it went into safe mode, and I have had no luck getting it to boot up in normal mode. I did get the menu and it allowed me to select normal mode, but when I re-start my computer, it is still in safe mode. I have no idea what to do next. This is the first time this has happened. Thanks!!

The same thing happened to me once. I fixed it by restoring the registry to an earlier date. Boot to DOS. Then type SCANREG /RESTORE (Note the space between the G and /). Select a date when all was running ok. Re-boot again and hopefully all will be ok.
