In the lower corner of my desktop is a small rectangular box "windows.odbc.hta", which can not be opened or when attempting to close, opens a large white window which can't be closed. What is this box?

I believe this is malware, Spybot Search and Destroy can take care of it. You can get Spybot from here. After installing, check for updates before running it.
