Microsoft security chief uses Firefox...hehehe

MICROSOFT'S head of security, Stephen Toulouse, has accidentally revealed that he
uses Firefox.

In an interview with Wired here, Toulouse was chatting about how security was an
industry wide problem and not Internet Explorer specific.

Then he mentioned that only that morning he had to download an upgrade to Firefox
to block a flaw that would've allowed an attacker to run a program on his system.

While he meant to point out how other browsers have the same problems as IE, he just
happened to reveal that he surfs using the rival browser.

Of course it is unlikely that he does not find IE a particularly secure proposition
and there must be a really good reason he has Firefox on his computer. Here are a
possible list of excuses:

1. His secretary downloaded it and he can’t work out how to uninstall it. He has
to keep updating to prevent from being a hole in his system.
2. He finds the orange and blue colour scheme calming.
3. He ritually has to swear at it as part of a Vole management rite.
4. He uses it to see if it can’t download the same pages that IE can and then laugh
if it can’t.
5. He is trying to know the enemy by using it.

HERE

Hard die Netscape user here, and very happy about it.....

I don't blame him, IE has become a trojan Magnet like Outlook is a virus Magnet. I started using Firefox a few months ago, and Malware has dropped a amazing amount since. I just installed the nightly Build Version 1.0, and it has been working great. Anyone want to try this Version 1.0 download (firefoxSetup.exe) from here> http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/2004-09-04-08-0.9/

Micro$oft through all kind of pressure (ads, bundling IE into its OS, etc.) made
majority of people switching to IE. For what? Getting them an ancient browser, with
all those security issues?
M$ started to take it over in late 90s.
Lately, bunch of people started to run away from IE, and "YES", it's good. Maybe,
we'll have less HT logs all over Internet.

Sounds like I need to try this Firefox again. Tried a beta version, didn't like
it much.
Thanks

I didn't care for Firefox either. I never have any problems with IE. I happen to think it is an excellent browser. If people would watch what they do on the Web they wouldn't have problems either.

Maybe he didn't uncheck these two settings, or add the Google toolbar to block the pop-ups. In IE, Tools, IE Options, Advanced, Uncheck: "Activate install on demand" (Other) , and, "Activate install on demand" (Internet Explorer) I think that that should read "Die hard nutscope user " Broni, but it'll do. I hear that squirrels use them too! ;-)

I didn't like firefox at first either. It has a bit of a learning curve to set up the tool bars, and such. I was a die hard IE user also, then I got a load of bad Malware doing what I considered safe surfing about 3 months back, and every family member and web surfing friend started having same problems. I am use to Firefox now, and 3 people who asked me for help many times on Hijacked computers I convinced to use Firefox also. All 3 of them have not had the computer Hijacked since they stopped using IE, a couple months now. So I'm pretty convinced not using IE is the reason.

There is no question about IE being the most unsecure browser. Anyone can check "secunia.org"
site (pretty much leading site, reporting security issues in all kind of applications),
and see how many security patches were issued for IE, compare to other browser.
Since IE took the majority of browsers market, I've been trying to convince people
on different boards, that taking it for granted is not a good move.
I've been using Netscape since its "Mosaic" version, back in early 90s, and I never
had any security isssues with it. Short while ago, i was pretty sure, Netscape development
was getting dead (since AOL bought it, and AOL was using a "cousin" version of IE
as its browser, there were some rumors about AOL willing to kill Netscape in under
the table deal with M$). Netscape version stayed at 7.1 for a while. Then, suddenly
version 7.2 was released.
I was almost ready to switch to Mozilla, because I saw Netscape as a dead end. Now,
I may want to see what's gonna happen. I have Mozilla, and Firefox installed on my
computer, as well, so let me post my thoughts, since I've been trying all those "Mozilla
engine based browsers" (Netscape, Mozilla, Firefox) for a while.
1. About IE. Some said in this thread....never had a problem with security issues.
Yes, for computer savvy people, taking care of all updates, running all kind of AVs,
antispyware programs, firewalls, etc., etc. it may be truth, but for a regular computer
user, IE is a perfect tool for getting into a trouble (ActiveX issue leads the pack).
2. Since I've been using Netscape for years, what can I say here? I love it, so forget
about it.
Firefox is a really simple browser, secure, but simple, so, if you are thinking about
trying another browser, I would suggest Mozilla. It has everything you need, including
mail program, and all other candies. It's an open source project, so many people
are having fun to make some more improvements to it.
3. I have a friend, die hard IE user. He used "tabbed browsing" (available in all,
Netscape, Mozilla, and Firefox), and he said: "forget about IE, just because of this
option".
I talk too much....LOOOOOOOOOOOL
