How I Did It - 'Get Rid of the Unwanted Explorer Windows at Startup'

I am running Windows 98 SE and was getting a Windows Explorer window opened everytime I started, even though no windows were open when I shutdown. I read somewhere about disabling all items in the msconfig startup that started with "Microsoft". I did this and it worked! I then enabled them one at a time to pinpoint which item it was. The culprit turned out to be "System Tray". But not the "SystemTray" corresponding to systray.exe. I don't know what the offending item did, but disabling it did work. The item corresponds to the following registry entry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

It's disabled but it is still on your system Roger.
I would suggest you find and remove this thing.
And also, I would scan for Ad-ware and virus's.

Peace
