Everything started with the installation of SystemWorks 2005 "Norton" on my win98 OS computer. Well now I am not able to start win98 and receive the errors like symevnt.386 is no loaded, cannot load file atm16.dll, kernel32 illegal operation, shlwapi.dll appears to be corrupt, no enough memory to start ccsetmgr.exe, msgsrv32 perform illegal operation. Please help, I am tired of trying everything and nothing work. I am not able to load win98 so everything will have to be done thru DOS. I even try to reload win98 but got stuck on win 98 setup. Appreciate the help.

We haven't a clue what you've tried! If you haven't, try restoring the registry.
If that doesn't help, you may be in the poop and need to reinstall Windows. You can
thank Norton, it's not anyone else's fault.
  • Boot while holding the CTRL key to enter the boot menu.
  • Select the COMMAND PROMPT ONLY option and press enter.
  • From the C:\> prompt, type SCANREG /RESTORE and press enter.
  • When the restore screen appears, select a backup dated before this problem occurred and then restart the system. (A properly working registry has the word 'Started' next to the date)
