Question about 'Windows keeps forgetting simple settings, such as screen colors!'

I have replaced my hard drive in my HP 8655C machine. I can not get it to accept any changes for the monitor driver or the display driver, so I am stuck with 16 color, standard driver selection. Have tried to download several drivers and tryed to install same. of course the recovery disks tell me I no longer have a HP machine, and will not accept system or application recovery disks. any suggestions?

What happens when you try to install the video card drivers? Your post is a little vague...

We're ass-u-me ing that you know
1) your operation system and version and
2) your graphics adapter type MajorGeeks-aida32

With that information in hand, you should be able to find
the one (and only one) device driver for your unit.

What you're probably looking for is how to make the BIOS use either the onboard video
or the PCI Video Card video driver. According to the HP website, you should be using
the integrated onboard video but you said that you had tried to install the "V card
driver"? I'm wondering if you had (or have) a PCI video card that you use in lieu
of the onboard video.

In any case, go to the HP 8655C - Installing or Replacing a Video Card to see how to access
the BIOS and select the video drivers to use.

If that doesn't solve the problem then you can check out the Monitor Name and Available Display Settings Incorrect page.

Let us know how you make out.
